Nearly 300 teams and more than 5,000 participants across Luxembourg are set to take part in this year's Relais pour la Vie (relay for life) fundraising event, which is taking place in a "connected" format on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 March 2022.

Organised by Fondation Cancer, Relais pour la Vie is an annual event that raises money for cancer research and allows participants to express their solidarity with cancer patients and their loved ones.

"Since the death of my sister Fabienne, we have taken part in Relais pour la Vie every year", commented Claude Hoffelt, one of this year's participants. "The [event] is not only a moment of remembrance for us, but through our participation, we want to express our solidarity with all patients and support research".

In this year's connected version, participants can walk or run in the place of their choice. These 24 symbolic hours represent a day in the life of a cancer patient.

Fondation Cancer volunteers will be present with a stand at the Cloche d'Or Shopping Center on Saturday and Sunday and at the Belle Etoile Shopping Center on Saturday to present Relais pour la Vie to visitors, give them the opportunity to register and to raise funds.

Participants will also be able to show their solidarity throughout the weekend on the event website. The "Social Wall" is now online and includes all posts from social networks including the hashtag #Relais2022Lux.

"We would have liked to organise a face-to-face Relais pour la Vie again this year, but the health situation still did not allow it", explained Lucienne Thommes, Director of Fondation Cancer. "We are reassured and happy to see that solidarity and commitment to cancer patients and their loved ones remains a priority in Luxembourg and we would like to thank our partners as well as the thousands of participants and torchbearers for teaming up with us".
