On Thursday 17 March 2022, Fondation de Luxembourg announced the creation of its 100th sheltered foundation.
The Fondation de Luxembourg is a public utility foundation created by the Luxembourg State and the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in December 2008, with the mission of promoting philanthropy.
The opening of the new foundation, the Peter und Barbara Bittmann Stiftung, brought the Fondation de Luxembourg to the symbolic threshold of 100 sheltered foundations created under its aegis and demonstrated the growing interest in structured philanthropic engagement.
This new foundation, whose mission is to promote equal opportunities for children, adolescents and young adults, joins a wide range of foundations housed under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg and active in various sectors in the whole world.
“Crossing the milestone of the hundredth foundation underlines the added value of the Fondation de Luxembourg for donors, who find there personalised support while ensuring continuous monitoring of the projects supported,” said Tonika Hirdman, Director General of the Fondation de Luxembourg. “We are proud to participate in the dynamism of European philanthropy and to actively contribute to the development of Luxembourg as an attractive choice for those who wish to make a long-term commitment in the face of today's challenges".
In 2014, the Fondation de Luxembourg reached the aggregated €100 million mark dedicated to the general interest philanthropy. In other recent milestones, the Fondation obtained tax approval in France in 2017, celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2019 and in 2020, distributed a record amount of €10 million to more than 300 projects of general philanthropy. All supported projects are selected in tandem with the founders, almost half of whom are foreign residents.
