Stëmm vun der Strooss, a Luxembourg non-profit association which supports homeless people and vulnerable members of society, and OUNI, Luxembourg's first packaging-free organic grocery store, have joined forces to fight against food waste.

On Tuesday 15 February 2022, these two actors sharing the same goals in the field of sustainability and the fight against food waste signed a partnership.

The idea for a cooperation came from members of OUNI. In search of new partners and looking to expand its activities in both OUNI stores (in Luxembourg City and in Dudelange), OUNI approached the Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, Alexandra Oxacelay. Alongside her kitchen manager, Thilo Umbach, Ms Oxacelay met with OUNI members, Sonja Ruud, Sam Wiscourt, Caroline Lam and Julien Gannard, at the OUNI store in Luxembourg City (55 Rue Glesener) to discuss the importance of a more sustainable way of thinking about food.

The cooperation foresees that members of the OUNI cooperative will have the opportunity to make a donation to Stëmm vun der Strooss. In return, the non-profit will use these donations to buy food at OUNI. Through this collaboration, members of the cooperative will be helping two actors at the same time, while contributing to the protection of the environment. As for Stëmm vun der Strooss, the collaboration will guarantee balanced and healthy meals in its social restaurant in Luxembourg-Hollerich (7 Rue de la Fonderie). If this first phase is successful, the collaboration will be extended to the kitchens in Esch-sur-Alzette and Schoenfels.

On behalf of Stëmm vun der Strooss, Alexandra Oxacelay expressed pride in working with a local partner: "In 2018, our editorial team reported on the OUNI cooperative. I am delighted to see how the movement has developed over the past five years. I am convinced that this new partnership will benefit us both, as we share the same vision".
