On Thursday 24 April 2025, Brasserie Nationale announced the installation of a new filtration unit at its Bascharage site, aimed at improving production processes, product quality and reducing environmental impact.

According to Brasserie Nationale, filtration plays a crucial role in ensuring the clarity and consistency of beer. With the introduction of this new technology, it is implementing a more efficient and precise system that also ensures better use of raw materials. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy focused on innovation and continuous improvement. “This new filtration unit represents a major milestone in our commitment to sustainable and high-quality production,” said Maurice Treinen, Director of Brasserie Nationale.

The new system is expected to deliver significant energy savings and reduce water consumption by 50% compared to the previous setup. The more effective filtration process will enable the brewery to lower its carbon footprint and continue advancing its environmental goals in line with its sustainability commitments.

The installation project, running through to early spring 2026, represents a strategic investment of €3.72 million - including €2.12 million for the new equipment and €1.6 million for construction works - aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of Brasserie Nationale. Production will continue without interruption during the works, maintaining the quality of the beers produced at the Bascharage site, said Brasserie Nationale in its statement.

Brasserie Nationale noted that, although the construction may temporarily affect part of the visitor route, brewery tours, tastings and brewing workshops will remain accessible. The brewery added that visits will continue to provide an insight into Luxembourg’s brewing tradition.
