On Thursday 15 January 2026, Luxembourg’s Minister for Culture, Eric Thill, and the Luxembourg Center for Architecture (LUCA) announced the creation of a new national prize, “Lëtzebuerger Architekturpräis”.
Intended to recognise and promote architectural excellence in Luxembourg, the prize carries a value of €10,000 and the organisers will award it every four years. The award will honour an architect for “their entire body of work, their career and their long-term commitment to the Luxembourg architectural and cultural scene”.
Eligible candidates include architects of Luxembourg nationality, as well as those who live or work in Luxembourg and show a strong connection to the country’s cultural landscape.
Minister Thill will appoint a jury of five experts in the field of architecture at the beginning of 2026. The jury will select the laureate of this first edition.
The creation of the Lëtzebuerger Architekturpräis, which responds to recommendation no 21 of the “Kulturentwécklungsplang” (cultural development plan) 2018-2028 (to “establish a system for awarding prizes highlighting cultural and artistic creations”), reportedly aims to highlight the creative work of the laureate, affirm the place of architecture within national cultural policies and strengthen the visibility and reach of the Luxembourg architecture sector at both national and international levels.
