On Tuesday 15 July 2025, Stëmm vun der Strooss, a Luxembourg-based non-profit organisation which supports people experiencing homelessness and vulnerable members of society, announced that its Director, Alexandra Oxacelay, had been bestowed the title of Knight of the Civil and Military Order of Merit of Adolphe of Nassau, by Grand Duke Henri.
In the press release from Stëmm vun der Strooss, Alexandra Oxacelay, who has served as Director of the association since 1998, said: “Without the commitment of my caring army - and by that, I mean my staff - not a single restaurant or professional reintegration workshop would have come into being. This award therefore belongs to them, as it is the result of a team effort.”
She added: “I would also like to share this honour with all those who contribute to our cause every day: our loyal donors, the members of our Board of Directors, the Ministry of Health, our partners and everyone who believes in a fairer world.”
Today, Stëmm vun der Strooss has 88 salaried employees and supports 250 people through professional activation measures. The organisation carries out its daily activities across nine sites in Luxembourg. Among its key offerings are three social restaurants: in Luxembourg-Hollerich, at 7 Rue de la Fonderie (opened in 2015); in Esch-sur-Alzette, at 112 Rue du Canal (opened in 2004); and in Ettelbruck, at 47 Rue Prince Henri (opened in 2023).
Since its founding in 1996 and its recognition as a public-interest non-profit, the association has worked for the social integration of disadvantaged individuals, offering support, essential services and a voice within society.
While the organisation initially focused only on adult support, 2021 marked the creation of the Kanner Stëmmservice, which extended assistance to children, parents, couples, families and siblings facing social difficulties.
