For the second consecutive year, Luxembourg steel and mining company ArcelorMittal has received a best supplier award from its automotive customer PSA Group.
After receiving an award from the global carmaker in the value creation category last year, ArcelorMittal has now been recognised in the technical cost savings category.
At the 12th annual best supplier awards ceremony, 15 suppliers overall were honoured for their commitment and response to PSA Group expectations by chairman of the managing board of PSA Group, Carlos Tavares, and the group's executive vice-president for purchasing, Yannick Bézard.
The award recognised ArcelorMittal's solutions which have enabled the reduction in the cost of delivered standard parts and therefore enhanced the competitiveness of the PSA Group, with Yannick Bézard commenting: "ArcelorMittal is working on weight and cost savings, and finding the best material solution for each vehicle. The best example of this is the systematice review of the car's body structure, which we undertake in the very early stage of all our new projects. This approach leads to average cost savings of €5 and €8 per car. Another example is ArcelorMittal's ability to team up with stamping companies to boost their VA/VE proposals."
The latter concept stands for Value Analysis/Value Engineering and is a systematic and organised procedural decision-making process which enables ArcelorMittal to generate alternative solutions which secure essential functions, at the greatest value and the lowest cost.
Philippe Aubron, CMO Automotive Europe for ArcelorMittal, expressed the company's delight at receiving the award for the second time in two years.
