On Thursday this week, Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, will attend the national commemoration ceremony in front of the national strike monument in Wiltz for the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of forced conscription, the strike and start Of political deportations (Emsiedlung) in 1942; Grand Duke Henri will also attend, to lay a wreath at the memorial.

On 31 August, exactly 75 years ago, Luxembourgers began to strike to protest against the introduction of forced conscription, proclaimed the previous day before by Gustav Simon.

Speeches will be delivered by the Mayor of Wiltz, Frank Arndt, Prime Minister Bettel, and President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mars Di Bartolomeo. Three young people will read historical texts and will call the names of the 21 victims of the strike.
