On Friday morning, a car burst into flames on the A1 motorway when travelling from Trier towards Luxembourg.
The incident was reported to the emergency services at around 10:30. The driver and passenger were able to get out of the car, which they stopped on the side of the road, and also rescue their dog and valuables from the burning vehicle.
When the rwscue services arrived at the scene, they managed to extinguish the blaze. The car was destroyed and had to be towed away.
The driver explained to the police that he had been in a traffic jam, which was due to work in the Cents tunnel. The vehicle started to smoke and then caught fire.
The fast lane was closed for traffic until the debris was cleared.
