On Wednesday 8 July 2026, the Lëtzebuerger Rousefrënn (Luxembourg Rose Friends) reported on the recent christening of the new 'Cliärrwer Rous', a rose created as the floral symbol of Clervaux.

The ceremony took place at Clervaux Castle on Friday 26 June 2026 and was organised by the Municipality of Clervaux and the Lëtzebuerger Rousefrënn. Bred by Belgian rose breeder Martin Vissers, the sunny yellow floribunda features large, densely double flowers and a delicate fruity fragrance.

According to the Lëtzebuerger Rousefrënn, the idea of creating a floral symbol for Clervaux came from the rose's godmother, Annette Rinnen-Jacobs.

"Who else has the opportunity to escape the heat by moving into a castle? Here in Clervaux, we do," said Maryse Weirig-Hensel, President of the Lëtzebuerger Rousefrënn, during the christening ceremony.

Clervaux Castle was chosen as the venue for the event. According to the organisers, the landmark overlooking the town is also home to three museums: the UNESCO-listed photographic exhibition The Family of Man, the Models of Luxembourg Castles exhibition and the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge.

"Clervaux is a major tourist attraction in the north of the country, and several other towns already have their own rose. Why not a 'Cliärrwer Rous'?" said Annette Rinnen-Jacobs.

"With its elegance, vitality and abundant flowering, the 'Cliärrwer Rous' embodies the qualities we spontaneously associate with Clervaux: authenticity, hospitality, serenity and openness to the world," said Belgian rose breeder Martin Vissers. He added that the warm golden-yellow rose is distinguished by its large, densely double, gently waved petals and delicate fruity fragrance, with notes reminiscent of fresh citrus and exotic herbs.

During the ceremony, Jos Pletschet & Friends performed a song dedicated to the Cliärrwer Rous, written especially for the occasion by author Jemp Schuster. The organisers added that Schuster also announced a second song dedicated to the rose, which is set to be performed during the Clervaux fair.

To mark the christening of the new rose, Post Luxembourg also issued a special "meng.Post" stamp and postcard featuring the Cliärrwer Rous. Both were available with a first-day postmark during the event.

The organisers noted that the Cliärrwer Rous has already been planted in the gardens of Clervaux Castle, where it is identified by a dedicated information sign. The rose can also be seen at the Château de Munsbach Rose Garden, where the Lëtzebuerger Rousefrënn maintain around 700 selected roses representing approximately 170 Luxembourg varieties. The publicly accessible rose garden has received the Award of Garden Excellence from the World Federation of Rose Societies and is currently being expanded.

Rose enthusiasts can already order the Cliärrwer Rous through the Lëtzebuerger Rousefrënn. The rose will be delivered as a bare-root plant from the autumn.
