On Friday 12 June 2026, Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg unveiled a new pollinator trail dedicated to biodiversity awareness and conservation, with Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity investing €210,000 in the project.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes, Bettembourg Mayor Jean Marie Jans, First Alderman Josée Lorsché, natur&ëmwelt President Roby Biwer and Parc Merveilleux Director Marc Neu.

The Municipality of Bettembourg, Parc Merveilleux and natur&ëmwelt asbl jointly developed the project. Covering approximately 800 square metres, the trail offers visitors, particularly families and children, an interactive way to discover the essential role of pollinators. The project also aims to improve understanding of their importance while creating new habitats and food resources for these insects. With nearly 300,000 visitors annually, Parc Merveilleux provides an ideal setting for raising awareness of biodiversity-related issues among a wide audience.

Another important aspect of the project concerns safe and respectful coexistence with wasps, particularly in catering and dining areas where interactions are more likely.

For this reason, information and awareness panels have been installed throughout the park. Using simple language and pictograms, they explain appropriate behaviour and help limit potential conflicts between people and wasps while addressing common misconceptions.

According to the project partners, the trail includes a wide range of features:

  • Interactive information panels about bees, wasps and other pollinators;
  • A bee house providing insight into beekeeping;
  • An insect hotel enabling observation of wild bees;
  • Interactive and playful features and stations, including a honeycomb-shaped bench;
  • Flowering areas planted with local species and perennials beneficial to insects.

The inauguration marked the conclusion of the fourth edition of the B&B Action Weeks, organised by Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity in collaboration with its partners.

Dedicated to raising awareness of and supporting pollinators, the action weeks form part of Luxembourg's National Action Plan for Pollinating Insects (2021-2026). The newly unveiled trail also represents a concrete implementation of this plan.
