Luxembourg’s Ministry of State, the Ministry of the Interior and the Grand Ducal Police have reported that, on Monday 20 April 2026, 144 new officers were sworn in during an official ceremony held at the Police Academy in Luxembourg-Findel.

The ceremony marked the swearing-in of candidates from the B1, C1 and C2 career streams of the police service. Marking a solemn occasion, the event officially confirmed the integration of the new members into the Police grand-ducale.

The new officers took their oath in the presence of Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden, Minister of the Interior Léon Gloden, Director General Pascal Peters, as well as numerous guests and police representatives.

Our Police is made up of women and men committed to serving the country and its citizens, who inspire trust and carry a great responsibility so that we can all live safely and freely in our daily lives. I express my deep gratitude for their commitment, courage and strong sense of responsibility,” said Minister Frieden.

Minister Gloden stressed: “You are placing yourselves at the service of society. You are the guarantors of our security and our freedom. No freedom without security. The Police guarantees security and therefore the freedom of all of us. This government has kept its commitments. We have strengthened and modernised the Police. We have restored proximity between police officers and citizens. The results are visible, notably through increased patrols and a stronger presence on the ground. We have brought the Police closer to citizens, following the principle of the ‘4Ps’: personnel, presence, proximity and prevention. We continue our efforts to stay one step ahead of criminals.”

Director General Pascal Peters congratulated the candidates on successfully completing their training and highlighted that the Grand Ducal Police remains an attractive employer. He noted that each year, many men and women apply to join the force, allowing recruitment of strong candidates and reinforcing public safety through proactive policing and increased field presence, and reminded the new officers that policing, while increasingly demanding, offers varied and rewarding career opportunities.

Following their training of two years (or one year for C2 candidates), the 144 new officers will join the police force. The sworn-in officers were selected from 465 applicants who sat the entrance examination in autumn 2023, of whom 190 began training at the academy in May 2024 (and in January 2025 for C2 candidates).

Since recruitment efforts were intensified in 2020, the police noted that it has welcomed around 200 new recruits each year at the academy. The first large intake in April 2023 saw 176 officers sworn in, followed by 170 in 2024 and 159 in 2025.

Recently, 163 trainees completed their first year and will begin field placements in May this year. In addition, 201 candidates will start their training on Monday 4 May 2026, selected from 650 applicants who took part in the end-2025 recruitment competition.
