On Monday 20 April 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported on its participation in the “Speed” road safety campaign, which took place across Europe from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 April.
According to the police, they carried out just over 1,060 speed checks throughout the Grand Duchy during the campaign, with 620 speeding offences recorded by its officers.
In total, seventeen driving licences were immediately withdrawn due to speeding offences. In addition, one licence was withdrawn where a driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
In addition to the checks carried out by police officers, fixed and mobile speed cameras (including red-light cameras) installed at various locations across the country were triggered nearly 6,950 times.
As part of the campaign, the police also took part in the “Speedmarathon” operation, which took place on Wednesday 15 April and during which officers carried out 288 speed checks over a 24-hour period across the Grand Duchy.
The police emphasised that both the “Speed” campaign and the “Speedmarathon” aim to combat speeding and to raise public awareness of the dangers associated with it, with a view to preventing road accidents.
