Luxembourg's weather portal MeteoLux issued a warning for thunderstorms on Monday 15 July 2024.

An orange ("danger") alert is in place for all of Luxembourg from 18:00 to 22:00 on Monday.

During this time, there is a risk of "strong" thunderstorms, as well as the possibility of hail, cumulative rainfall of 25 to 40 l/m² (locally) "in a short time" and wind gusts of around 90 km/h (or more in some places).

Update: Later on Monday (around 15:30), the High Commission for National Protection (HCPN), MeteoLux, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) and Luxembourg's Water Management Authority (AGE) reported that the severe weather risk assessment unit (CERI) met at the beginning of the afternoon to assess the meteorological situation and issued a warning for strong storms across the Grand Duchy. They added that heavy rainfall could cause local flash floods.

The authorities warned the public to be vigilant, especially during seasonal outdoor activities, not to take shelter under trees, especially not under an isolated tree, and to avoid walks in the forest. It is recommended not to stay near rivers and streams which tend to overflow quickly. It is also advisable to shelter objects such as garden furniture from the wind.
