On Thursday 21 November 2024, the official launch of the construction sites for the Luxembourg Urban Garden (LUGA) 2025 took place in the Pétrusse Valley in Luxembourg City.

Luxembourg's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, Martine Hansen, together with Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, First Alderman Maurice Bauer and LUGA General Coordinator Ann Muller, attended the outdoor ceremony, where ten urban gardens designed by the Young Designers will be installed.

Minister Hansen, Mayor Polfer and Ms Muller gave speeches in Luxembourgish describing the LUGA project, before "turning the sod" on the project.

LUGA, set to run from Wednesday 7 May until Saturday 18 October 2025, will be held in four open spaces in Luxembourg City: the Edouard André municipal park, the Pétrusse valley, the Alzette valley and in Kirchberg. There will also be a site in Ettelbruck for the LUGA Nordstad. There will be over 50 installations at these sites including urban gardens, artistic and landscape installations, agricultural projects and living spaces.

The theme of the exhibition is "Rendre Visible l'Invisible" (Making the Invisible Visible) and it aims to "reveal the natural and historical riches that shape our cities, which are often unknown to the public".

Speaking to Chronicle.lu, Ms Muller described the exhibition as an ambitious project brought to life by the close cooperation of all parties involved, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, the Cities of Luxembourg and Ettelbruck and the Luxembourg Horticultural Federation. The project was officially launched in 2019, and Ms Muller has been involved in it for the past four years. She mentioned visiting the British Embassy in Luxembourg the previous day to discuss a possible collaboration as part of the project.

Ms Muller also spoke of the need for volunteers and encouraged anybody interested in helping to reach out.
