The Grand Ducal Police announced they conducted extensive alcohol level checks on the night from Friday 22 to Saturday 23 November 2024, targeting multiple regions of Luxembourg.

These checks were carried out as part of a coordinated effort to enhance road safety and deter drink driving. The police tested 1,100 motorists across the country during this operation. 31 positive breath tests were recorded, leading to numerous official reports and warnings. Nine driver’s licences were revoked on-site.

On Friday 22 November, from 22:30 to midnight, police monitored Route d’Arlon in Capellen in the South-West Region, where 151 motorists underwent breath tests. Four positive tests resulted in two official reports and five warnings. No driver’s licences were confiscated at this checkpoint. Later, on Saturday 23 November, from 00:45 to 02:15, alcohol checks on Route N6 in Steinfort resulted in seven positive tests out of 110 motorists. This led to ten official reports, three warnings and six driver’s licences being confiscated on the spot.

On Saturday 23 November, from 19:30 to 23:00, police checkpoints in the Northern Region, namely Hosingen (Rue Principale) and Wemperhardt (RN7, Op der Haart) subjected 529 motorists to preliminary breath tests, even in the absence of visible indications of alcohol consumption. Five tests returned positive results, leading to three official reports and two warnings. Additionally, two driver’s licences were confiscated on the spot, and fifteen other traffic violations were recorded.

From 23:00 on Friday night to 03:45 on Saturday, police conducted alcohol checks in Luxembourg City, testing 163 motorists. Four positive tests led to four official reports and the confiscation of one driver’s licence.

In the Central-East region, from 23:00 on Friday to 01:00 on Saturday, 194 motorists were tested on Route N7, near Roost and Colmar-Berg. Eleven positive results resulted in multiple warnings and official reports, though no driver’s licences were confiscated during these checks.
