The Grand Ducal Police have reported that several home break-ins took place in Luxembourg over the weekend, with one burglar caught in the act.
Police received reports of a break-in on Rue Dr Albert Schweitzer in Bettembourg at around 17:00 on Saturday 10 March 2024.
The burglar broke a window at the back of the house, went inside and searched several rooms and wardrobes, stealing various objects. One of the residents caught the perpetrator in the act and chased him but the latter escaped.
The police later caught the burglar in a nearby forest. At the police station, he was subjected to a body search during which police found a stolen mobile phone, cash and various other items. A jacket and a backpack along with other stolen goods, which the perpetrator dropped as he fled, were found a few metres from the scene of the break-in.
The public prosecutor ordered the arrest of the burglar, who was brought before the examining judge.
Several other break-ins were reported during the day and overnight (Saturday to Sunday). These took place: in Kohlenberg in Cessange; at a practice on Rue de Kehlen in Keispelt; on Rue Mathias Koener in Esch-sur-Alzette; on Rue des Près in Steinsel; on Rue du Bois in Strassen.
A number of vehicle break-ins were also reported: on the main street (Hauptstrooss) in Boxhorn; on Rue Jules Hemmer in Bascharage; on Boulevard Prince Henri in Luxembourg-Ville.
