The Grand Ducal Police have issue a reminder about government restrictions in place since 25 December which they stressed will also be applicable on Friday, New Year's Eve, without exception.
The Police will continue to monitor the restrictions and will focus in particular on the following three aspects: the application of the Covid-Check regime in restaurants and drinking places, compliance with the closing time of these establishments (fixed at 23:00) as well as private gatherings. They stressed that controls will be carried out both in a targeted manner and in the context of ordinary missions or on call.
The Police will closely follow events announced for the evening of New Year's Eve and will be present in order to ensure the smooth running and supervision of them, to regulate traffic if necessary and to intervene if needed. As on previous weekends, a demonstration zone will extend from the Glacis car-park to the Place de l'Europe in Luxembourg-Kirchberg .
Any infringements noted by the police officers will be prosecuted after the event itself, following investigations if necessary.
The night of 31 December is traditionally among the busiest nights of the year; the police will react to calls from residents according to their availability and priorities: their presence on the ground will be strengthened across the country in order to be able to intervene as quickly as possible if necessary. In this regard, the police have asked citizens to contact the emergency number (tel: 113) only in case of emergency, threat or danger.
In the event of non-urgent matters, the Police recommend that people (in the coming days) contact a police station to make a complaint or to resort to the "e-police station" online at https://police.public.lu/en/commissariat-virtuel.html.
Fireworks
The police have also issued a reminder that setting off fireworks is regulated by municipal police regulations. It is therefore advisable to check beforehand with the local municipal administration whether the launching of fireworks is authorised on public roads or not.
In all cases, the Police recommend that people consult with their neighbours, if necessary, to buy only pyrotechnic products (fireworks) that have the "CE" mark and to scrupulously respect safety precautions.
