The “vigilance phase” implemented earlier this year regarding drinking water has ended.
In view of a considerable deficit in rainfall during the winter of 2016/2017 and a very high consumption during the last months due to the heat, a vigilance phase had to be triggered at the end of May 2017 in order to prevent a shortage of drinking water.
Indeed, from the beginning of the school holidays, drinking water consumption dropped again. Moreover, the weather forecast for Luxembourg does not envisage a heat wave in the coming weeks. A new peak in drinking water consumption is therefore unlikely.
It goes without saying that any waste of drinking water is still to be avoided. However, thanks to the cooperation of the municipalities and citizens, an orange phase at the national level could be avoided.
