The Luxembourg cabinet has backed a draft bill banning the use of burqas in the Grand Duchy.
During the most recent cabinet meeting on 26 July 2017, ministers showed unanimous support for a ban on veils which conceal the face in some public places.
The new law would modify article 563 of the national criminal code and those found to violate the suggested legislation could be fined between €25 and €250.
This decision comes after much debate in recent years which resulted on the draft law bill 6909 from November 2015 according to which the face may only be concealed in public places for medical or professional purposes, sports or cultural events, or at authorised protests.
The date for the introduction of this proposed ban may be determined after it is presented to the parliamentary commission.
