Sunday 9 July 2017 saw the open day of the Luxembourg Army at the Grand Duke Barracks in Diekirch.
Yesterday, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the law abolishing compulsory military service in Luxembourg and as part of the 175th anniversary of military music, marked the open day of the Luxembourg Army.
More than 9,000 people took the opportunity to discover the site and learn about the army. A wide-ranging programme was offered to visitors, including demonstrations in collaboration with other administrations, concerts, exhibitions of equipment and vehicles and a wide range of activities for children and adults. The proposed programme proved successful with the visitors and brought the the local population and the Luxembourg army together.
Prime Minister and Minister of State Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Étienne Schneider and Secretary of State for Defence Francine Closener also visited the military centre to visit the site, take advantage of the proposed programme and discuss with the visitors.
