Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection, announced on Friday that the avian influenza virus (bird flu) has been confirmed in three poultry farms located in Keispelt, Niederfeulen and Schrassig; all the poultry present were euthanised.
In order to limit an extension of the disease to other farms, all transport of live poultry and any exposure of poultry are prohibited for one week.
It is recommended that poultry be kept indoors. All feeding and watering must be done inside the buildings. Any abnormal mortality should be reported to a veterinarian.
The avian influenza virus is an animal disease that does not affect humans and that any consumption of meat and eggs is safe for public health.
