On Thursday afternoon, shortly before 16:00, a motorcyclist died in an accident with a bicycle on the road between Wiltz and Kautenbach.
The motorcycle was carring a rider (a 54 year-old from Germany) and a pillion passenger when it collided with a bicycle and cyclist on the road just outside the village of Kautenbach.
The cyclist fell to the ground and was injured, while the motorcyclist was hurled against a tree together with his vehicle. The pillion passenger, a woman, was thrown down a few metres down a slope and was injured in the impact.
The motorcyclist could not be rescued despite resuscitation measures taken by the rescue services and volunteer fire brigades from Wiltz and Kieschpelt at the scene and died at the scene of the accident. The rescue helicopter was also called out to the accident.
The public prosecutor ordered a forensics examination to be undertaken at the scene of the accident in order to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the accident.
The route remained blocked for traffic for a while.
