On Thursday morning, an accident at a construction site in the Cloche d'Or in Luxembourg city claimed the life of a workman.
The accident happened shortly before 11:00 at a construction site on the Boulevard Raiffeisen. A prefabricated concrete formwork plate gave way, damading a number of floors underneath. One workman was fatally injured and another workman was seriously injured and is being treated in hospital. Luxembourg's Minister of Labour, Employment and Social and Solidarity Economy, Nicolas Schmit, stated "Following the very serious accident on a construction site in the Cloche d'Or, I would first like to express my condolences to the family and relatives of the victim and a speedy recovery to workers who have been injured. Strengthening security in the construction sector is a priority. I wish there were more controls and more awareness. A week of safety in the construction sector will be organised for this purpose in 2017."
