On Monday evening, a lorry travelling on the A13 motorway was involved in an accident in which it ended up off the road and lying on its side down a steep embankment beside a bridge.
The accident happened shortly beofre 21:30 as the driver was proceedign towards Lankelz near Esch-sur-Alzette. The driver lost control of the vehicle which crashed through the roadside barriers and over a series of railings, before coming to a stop on a steep embankment on its left side.
The driver had to be freed by the emergency services as his leg had become trapped in the wreckage of the cab; this was a long and tedious task which needed to be undertaken very delicately as the truck was unstable and threatened to slide down to the bottom of the embankment, onto the A4 motorway which then had to be closed to all traffic for safety concerns.
However, before the closure was activated, traffic in the opposite lane of the A4 motorway was involved in a three-vehicle accident. A female passenger in one of the cars received what were described as minor injuries. Two of the cars were written off. The police set up traffic diversions which were lifted after midnight.
While the status of the truck driver was unclear, he was transported to hopsital where his injuries were described as not being life-threatening.
