Following the bad weather, particularly the electrical storm and torrential rain, that occurred on the evening of Friday 22 July 2016 across much of the Grand Duchy, the Crisis Cell of the "Bad weather" Emergency Response Plan met under the chairmanship of Luxembourg's Minister of the Interior, Dan Kersch.
The authorities have issued a recommendation - as a precautionary measure - not to consume tap water in the following towns: Larochette (Fiels), Cruchten (Kruuchten), Nommern (Noumer), Savelborn (Suewelbur) and Ermsdorf (Iermsdrëf). Nevertheless, tap water can be used after having been boiled for at least ten minutes.
The Administration of water management is in contact with the municipalities concerned and is performing analyses of water quality. As soon as the water quality is restored, residents will be informed by the authorities.
Rescue services are distributing bottled water on-site to Larochette, via firefighters and at the rescue centre in Ermsdorf near the church. In addition, two containers with non-potable water for multiple use have been dispatched to Ermsdorf.
Human and material reinforcements have been put on standby from various organisations, including the Administration of emergency services, the Luxembourg Army and the Administration of Bridges & Roads.
Members of the public have been requested to helpt facilitate these emergency measures, including respecting detours set up by the police in the affected municipalities.
In case of power failure, members of the public are asked to listen to the radio or a car radio to receive information and take recommendations from the authorities.
According to weather forecasts currently available, additional precipitation is expected from 11:00 to 18:00 across the whole country. MeteoLux and the emergency services are following the situation permanently.
