A two-car accident on the Route du Vin between Stadtbredimus and Hettermillen on Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of two people.
The accident happened shortly before 14:00 on the N10 which follows the winding Moselle river on the Luxembourg border with Germany.
The police reported that a car travelling north from Stadtbredimus veered over to the opposite lane on a right-hand corner; a motorist travelling south tried to take evasive action, but was unable to avoid a head-on collision.
In the first car the driver and front-seat passenger were so badly injured that they were declared dead at the scene of the accident as a result of their injuries. The driver of the second car was flown to hospital with minor injuries by a rescue helicopter.
To determine the exact circumstances of the accident, the police have launched an investigation. The was was closed to all traffic for the duration of the search and rescue work and the subsequent police forensic work. The road was expected to re-open by 19:00.
