Luxembourg is soon expected to unveil a new electronic alert system which could change the emergency response rate to a road traffic accident.

Entitled 'eCall', this initative from the European Commission is expected to be introduced in October 2017 in all vehicles sold across Europe. In the event of a car crash, this system would bypass driver intervention and automatically alert the relevant emergency services, sending the precise location of the vehicle regardless of the EU country in which it is located.

The eCall will be presented on Tuesday 19 January 2016 at a press conference dedicated to the 'Rettungsgasse' joint information campaign. This has been developed by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure; the Ministry of the Interior; the Rescue Services Administration; the Highways Administration; Sécurité Routière ASBL; the Grand Ducal Police; the Fédération des garagistes (Fegarlux); the Luxembourg Car Dealers Association (ADAL); and the Automobile Club of Luxembourg (ACL). Further details will be presented then.
