The Grand Ducal Police reported yesterday that chain letter death threats have recently gained new traction amongst a new generation, desseminated throughout schools via 'WhatsApp' messenger or voice message.
The chain letter is delivered in audio form, spoken by a computerised voice, stating that the message has to be forwarded by the recipient to twenty new recipients within a short space of time lest the relative of the original recipient be killed.
The message also alleges several individuals who were subjected to agonising deaths from failure to pass on the chain mail. Whereas previously these chain letters were transmitted by e-mail, they have now been transformed into audio and sent through mobile applications instead.
The Grand Ducal Police stated that the messages posed no real physical threat or consequence and that therefore the recipients had nothing to fear. The Police urged parents, guardians and teachers to educate children about these circumstances in order prevent further sharing and distribution of these chain letters.
