A meeting was held yesterday at the Ministry of Health between Health Minister Lydia Mutsch, Minister for Family and Integration Corinne Cahen and the Esch College of Aldermen to discuss opportunities to improve social and medical support for vulnerable people.
The meeting was also attended by the Housing Service of the Commune, as well as several related associations such as Foyer de Nuit Abrisud, Fondation Jugen- a Drogenhëllef, Foyer Sud - Fraën an Nout, Office Social de la Ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette and Réseau Psy - Psychesch Hëllef Dobaussen.
Discussions were focused on vulnerable people, including those suffering from mental disorders who, despite the wide range of medical, psychological and social services available both regionally and nationally, fall through the cracks.
Among the proposed solutions were the continuous training of staff involved in order to better prepare them to aid people with mental illness; involving medico-psycho-social professionals and the hospital sector in a coordinated collaboration; and the exploration or expansion of other accommodation options for isolated cases such as chronic addiction or elderly care.
