On Wednesday evening, the Luxembourg police arrested a total of 28 people who rioted outside the Stade Josy Barthel on Route d'Arlon in Luxembourg city.
Trouble flared before the start of the European club football match between CS Fola (Luxembourg) and Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia). The police had been prepared for trouble and had drafted in extra officers to be on duty around the stadium, and also closed access to the Route d'Arlon before, during and after the match.
The police reported that warring groups of travelling supporters became embroiled in a mass brawl at around 19:00 outside the stadium. Some pyrotechnics / fireworks / flares were lit and set off against one another. A car parked nearby was alo damaged when its rear window was smashed.
The police intervened and separated the rioters before arresting a total of 28.
The game kicked-off at 20:00 and was played without incident. The final score was 0-3 for the visitors. The first leg had finished 1-1. Dinamo Zagreb go through the next round.
