The Cat Club and neighbouring businesses in Hollerich have been destroyed by fire.
The bar and restaurant has been burnt to the ground in a fire that engulfed the premises on Saturday night, Sunday morning.
The emergency services had reponded to a call shortly after 05:30 and arrived to discover the building already seriously damaged with flames leaping out of the ground and first floor windows and the roof. The fire spread to an architect's office, then the Troc Store in an adjoining building.
None of the premises were occupied at the time of the blaze; the CatClub had closed its doors at 01:30. Residents of nearby buildings were evacuated and brought to safety outside of the perimiter of the fire. Streets around the premises (rue de l'aciérie, rue de la Fonderie and rue de Hollerich) were blocked to traffic wjile the emergency services brought the fire under control and stopped it spreading further.
Firefighters were still at the premises on Sunday afternoon, ensuring the fire was indeed extinguished and there was no chance of sparks igniting another fire.
The cause of the fire is as yet unknown; a forensics examination and investigation is being undertaken to determine the cause.
