The Luxembourg police have announced that they have confiscated three raccoons from the garden of a house in Luxembourg-Rollingergrund; the raccoons had been kept illegally in a kennel of 10x3 metres. According to the Animal Protection Act of 15 March 1983 (Article 4) and the Nature Conservation Act of 19 January 2004 (Article 27) it is prohibited to keep wild animals in captivity without permission.
Article 18 of the Hunting Act of 25 May 2011 also prohibits the keeping of wild animals such as raccoons. Violations are punishable by fines of up to €15,000 fine and up to 6 months in jail.
