On Monday, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, was in Luxembourg.
He met with Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, the Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Romain Schneider, and the Environment Minister, Carole Dieschbourg, addressing the key points of the Luxembourg Presidency of the EU Council in the second half 2015, citing in particular the conference on development financing, the New York summit on Sustainable Development Goals and the conference on climate change in Paris.
Minister Asselborn made the point to Secretary-General Ban regarding the cooperation of the EU with the United Nations, detailing priorities of the European Union for the 70th session of the UN General Assembly to be held from September 2015. They also discussed several issues of international politics.
Minister Schneider stressed the need for success at the Addis conference to release the New York Summit. The Luxembourg Presidency is committed in this regard through enhanced public aid for development and the mobilisation of domestic resources, linked to enhanced engagement of Luxembourg in the area of taxation and development.
Minister Dieschbourg stressed the importance of financing the fight against climate change in order to move towards an agreement at the conference on climate change.
