On the evening of Wednesday 15 July 2026, contemporary art gallery, Galerie ARTSKOCO, hosted the vernissage of the exhibition RESONANCE.
Galerie ARTSKOCO, founded in 2016 by Orie and Christophe Duplay, is located in the founders’ own home in Luxembourg-Belair and is dedicated to promoting emerging Korean artists. The gallery will celebrate its ten-year anniversary in September.
The exhibition, titled RESONANCE, features a variety of work from students Biro Kim and Bogyeong Choi, who are studying under Professor Park NungSaeng's Master of Fine Arts programme at the Chungnam National University in Daejeon, South Korea. They will be in residence at the gallery for the month of July.
Biro Kim’s works feature two dominant colour palettes - green and off-white, and monochrome - presented on traditional Korean paper and cotton fabric, using coloured ink and traditional Korean inksticks (Meok). The pieces selected for this exhibition depict nature, flowers, branches and leaves in a style reminiscent of photographic negatives.
In contrast, Bogyeong Choi’s pieces are in black and white, using ink on algae-based Korean paper and a fine brush linear technique to illicit details of elephants amongst ancient forests and mountainous skies, drawing inspiration from an experience she shared with an injured elephant during a stay in Thailand.
The opening event welcomed around 90 people, with the hosts providing food and refreshments for the guests and provided access to a communal area in the building’s rear garden, which allowed the guests to mingle and meet with the artists and gallery owners.
Speaking to Chronicle.lu, Christophe Duplay spoke of the challenges of both establishing and running the gallery for ten years, helping to realise his wife, Orie’s, dream of establishing an art space to promote Korean art in Luxembourg. He detailed the decision to create the gallery at the couple’s home and how, following the first year, the gallery was invited to participate in the 2016 edition of Luxembourg Art Week. “That was a good exposure and that sort of started us we expected to close the company within three months,” he noted. “We survived.”
After investing in refurbishments to the gallery in 2018, temporary closure followed in 2020 during the COVID lockdown and saw the couple pivot to establishing a Korean catering company. During the phases of reopening during the pandemic the gallery was able to host a number of exhibitions which ultimately proved to be a turning point in the success story of Galerie ARTSKOCO, who now organise around six to seven events each year and will again participate in Luxembourg Art Week this year.
On how the gallery became aware of the works of Biro Kim and Bogyeong Choi, Orie Duplay said: “I know their professor. We invited him to give an exhibition here two or three years ago. He said he had excellent students that he would like to send for the residence programme. I said,’ I need to see the works’. And he said, ‘trust me, I will send you the best’.”
She added: “It is very important to promote young artists. We launched this programme and we are very happy to present our first residency program with the two best artists in Korea.”
The exhibition runs from Wednesday 15 to Thursday 30 July 2026.
