To mark its centenary this year, Banque de Luxembourg will host a retrospective photo exhibition which will be open to the public from today, Monday 26 October 2020, at the bank’s headquarters on Boulevard Royal in Luxembourg City.
Pierre Ahlborn, Managing Director of Banque de Luxembourg, explained the importance of the centenary: “We are drawing on our past to help build our vision for the future. We have lived through several difficult periods, including the Great Depression in the 1930s, the Second World War, successive oil crises and financial crises, and have embraced every challenge as an opportunity to move forward and build remarkable resilience. Over 100 years, we have learned to see each new crisis as an opportunity to improve and adapt. The centenary also presents a natural opportunity to thank our clients, employees and fellow citizens and talk to them about future challenges”.
To commemorate the anniversary, Banque de Luxembourg enlisted the help of Parisian agency the Bâtisseurs de mémoire, which spent two years digging into the bank’s stories, archives and heritage. This historical research resulted in an illustrated book, a retrospective exhibition and a website offering insights into the past, present and future.
Based on research initiated by the bank, the book “1920-2020: 100 Years of Banking in Luxembourg” charts the eight key periods that shaped Banque de Luxembourg’s DNA. Complimentary copies are available from the bank's headquarters at 14 Boulevard Royal and can be ordered on the dedicated website banquedeluxembourg100ans.com, launched to mark the occasion. The website reveals the bank’s history and explores future challenges through stories, articles, podcasts and employee testimonials.
Banque de Luxembourg has invited the public to discover its history in a retrospective photo exhibition documenting the last 100 years. The exhibition will be held at 14 and 14A Boulevard Royal and will be open to the public from today (Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00). Visits will be subject to public health guidance and a face covering is required. Guided tours can be organised on request, subject to public health restrictions.
