The Grand Ducal Police have reported five separate drink-driving incidents between Sunday 2 and Monday 3 August 2026, which resulted in three driving licences being confiscated, one driving ban being issued and one vehicle being seized.
On Sunday afternoon, police stopped a vehicle on the N7 near Fridhaff after it had been seen swerving. The driver was found to have exceeded the legal alcohol limit and was also unable to produce a valid driving licence. A report was drawn up.
Shortly afterwards, a motorist who collided with a flower pot on Rue Eechelsbaach in Lamadelaine tested positive for alcohol. As the vehicle was no longer roadworthy, the driver's licence was confiscated.
Later that evening, police stopped another vehicle in Rue de Muhlenbach in Luxembourg City after receiving reports that it had been repeatedly swerving on the A6 towards Kopstal/Bridel. The driver was found to have a significantly elevated blood alcohol level. His driving licence was confiscated and a report was drawn up.
At around 21:30, police stopped a speeding vehicle on the A4 near the Foetz slip road. Officers detected an elevated blood alcohol level and also established that the vehicle was neither properly registered nor insured. The driver's licence was confiscated and, on the instructions of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the vehicle was seized.
On Monday morning, police found a driver asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle that had been parked in violation of traffic regulations at the Capellen service area. The driver showed clear signs of alcohol consumption and tested positive during a breath test. He was issued with a driving ban and a report was drawn up.
