Greek painter, sculptor, illustrator and poet Sofia Kouldakidou will be in the spotlight at the Galerie Simoncini art gallery in Luxembourg City this Friday 10 July 2020.

On display for the very first time in Luxembourg will be a large number of small figures (clay, metal, stone) from Sofia Kouldakidou's installation "Die Wartenden" ("waiting").

In total, there are 300 heads, shaped one by one and all different, which occupied the Greek artist for two years. During this time, she revisited this past of humanity on the move in light of today's world. A world that this uprooted woman carries within her as she carries the landscapes of her Mediterranean shores which illuminate seemingly abstract paintings which are actually resurgences of past sensations and emotions, mixed with memories from the collective conscience.

Present in many public and private collections, the work of Sofia Kouldakidou will be presented in Luxembourg for the first time. The opening of this exhibition, organised in collaboration with the Culture hellénique au Luxembourg association and on display throughout the summer, will take place outdoors on 10 July 2020 from 17:00 to 20:00.
