On Thursday 18 August 2022, Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development, together with the unemployment office / Agency for the Development of Employment (ADEM), announced the renewal of their collaboration with the Institut viti-vinicole (IVV) for the recruitment of seasonal workers for the 2022 grape harvest along the Route du Vin by the River Moselle.

In the Luxembourg Moselle region, the grapes used for the production of Crémant de Luxembourg and high-end wines must be harvested manually. Manual harvesting contributes significantly to guaranteeing the high quality of Luxembourg wines and crémants. To achieve this, and in order to fill the peak demands in work, the winegrowers mainly use seasonal labour, many of whom come from neighbouring countries and countries to the East, while others are recruited via ADEM and the IVV.

This year, the harvest is expected earlier than in 2021 and is scheduled for early to mid-September. ADEM and IVV have therefore set up a recruitment service for seasonal pickers for wine companies looking for candidates. The Institut viti-vinicole canvasses wineries looking for seasonal workers, while ADEM takes care of contacting and pre-selecting interested candidates.

Last year, 31 candidates were hired via this service by the various Moselle winegrowers.
