Luxembourg Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development confirmed that the quantity of grapes harvested during the 2020 wine harvest amounted to approximately 92,000 hl.

On Friday 9 October 2020, His Royal Highness the Grand Duke and the Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development, Romain Schneider, visited the winegrowers of Koeppchen in Wormeldange and attended the harvest of Riesling, the latest-blooming grape variety. On this occasion, they discussed the results of the harvest and lent a hand in cutting the grapes.

The Riesling grape from Koeppchen is known for its extraordinary quality. The intuitive link between the Koeppchen and Riesling appellations is evident from the fact that among the 8.5 hectares of vines allocated to Koeppchen, 7.7 hectares are planted with Riesling.

Luxembourg's Agriculture Minister Romain Schneider discussed with representatives of the Viticultural Solidarity Fund, the Professional Organisation of Independent Winegrowers (OPVI), Domaines Vinsmoselle and the Luxembourg federation of wines and spirits and drew a positive assessment of the 2020 harvest. The minister said he was "very satisfied and impressed" by the efficient organisation of the 2020 harvest, which took place without incident, despite the challenges and restrictions caused by the COVID-19 crisis. The quantity harvested during the 2020 harvest amounted to around 92,000 hl, which is 5.6% lower than the five-year average.

Minister Romain Schneider also highlighted the excellent collaboration between the Institut viti-vinicole (IVV), the Ministry of Health, ADEM, the Lycée Technique Agricole and the MBR Maschinenring. He recalled that winegrowers were pioneers of sustainable Luxembourg viticulture, by renouncing glyphosate and chemical insecticides in the vineyards. The result was healthy vines and high-quality grapes which are the basis of the excellence of Luxembourg wines and crémants.
