The operator of the Cattenom nuclear power plant, EDF, has reported that a reactor was taken offline on Wednesday 12 July 2023 due to a recent fault.

EDF announced in a press release that Reactor 4 was disconnected from the electricity network after a fault was discovered on a system annexed to the turbine, located in the non-nuclear part of the facility.

EDF said its teams were assessing the situation before defining the conditions for its safe return to the network.

The French operator assured that the incident had no consequences for the safety of the facilities, the safety of the personnel or the environment.

Reactor 3 remained operational, whilst Reactors 1 and 2 were on scheduled shutdown for maintenance.
