
From Monday 29 to Wednesday 31 August 2022, Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel undertook an official visit to Paris, France.
During this visit, Prime Minister Bettel officially met his French counterpart, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, for the first time. This meeting was characterised by a mutual appreciation of bilateral cooperation, particularly cross-border cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. Prime Minister Bettel notably highlighted that the Luxembourg government is constantly striving to improve the conditions of this cooperation, for instance in the field of telework.
During their exchange, the Luxembourg and French Prime Ministers also discussed current issues such as the war in Ukraine and its geopolitical consequences, for instance in relation to energy supply and food security.
Xavier Bettel also thanked his counterpart on behalf of Luxembourg for the "excellent" collaboration between the two countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finally, the two heads of government pledged to strengthen the friendship between Luxembourg and France. In this spirit, Xavier Bettel invited Elisabeth Borne to visit Luxembourg.
During his stay in the French capital, Prime Minister Bettel also met the French President, Emmanuel Macron. Their exchange focused above all on European politics with its plethora of pressing issues, among which is first and foremost the search for solutions at European level to the energy crisis, as well as the establishment of a new cooperation structure on the European continent.
Luxembourg's Prime Minister also congratulated President Macron for a "very ambitious" and "profoundly successful" French Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).
