Following the emergency appeal launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in response to hurricanes Eta and Iota in Central America, Luxembourg has pledged 100,000 in emergency aid.

Luxembourg's Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Franz Fayot, announced today a contribution of €100,000 to help the victims of these devastating hurricanes in Central America.

This financial contribution will be devoted to the protection of vulnerable people, taking into account the gender dimension, as well as to strengthening the capacities of the Nicaraguan Red Cross.

Hurricane Iota is considered to be the strongest storm ever to have hit Nicaragua, a Luxembourg Cooperation partner country. The two storms have affected 3.6 million people, hundreds of thousands of whom were forced to evacuate their homes.
