Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy Étienne Schneider and Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna travelled to Italy from 24 to 26 March 2019 for a working visit with honorary consuls and foreign trade advisers.

The purpose of this visit was to exchange ideas and experiences in order to better coordinate Luxembourg's trade promotion, investment and branding efforts in Italy. In this context, ministers also had a first exchange with honorary consuls to prepare a multi-sectoral economic mission to Italy in 2020.

The two ministers also had a meeting with the representatives of InfoCert (Tinexta Group), a strategic partner of LuxTrust, to discuss the group's new opportunities for digital identity development in Europe and the latest innovations in the field of digital identity in Europe as well as the latest innovations in electronic identification and authentication.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy Étienne Schneider commented: "Luxembourg and Italy are longstanding economic partners. Our honorary consuls are an important part of our network, and a determining factor in our bilateral relations. This visit allowed us to identify potential synergies in our key sectors and lay the groundwork for a future multi-sectoral visit."

Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna added: "Italy is one of the main markets of the Luxembourg financial centre. Luxembourg acts as a centre of expertise for the Italian financial industry in the field of investment funds, wealth management, commercial banking and more recently in the Fintech sector. [...] It is important to further strengthen the economic and cultural ties between our two countries and to highlight the advantages of Luxembourg as a whole."
