Following Luxembourg Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna's talks with Minister of the Economy of the United Arab Emirates, HE Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, in Brussels last Thursday, meetings between the Grand Duchy and the UAE continued over the weekend with the participation of Jean Asselborn in the 'Forum Sir Bani Yas' meeting in Qasr Al Sarab.
Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs was present at the Forum, held from 13 to 15 November 2015, at the invitation of Foreign Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Organised in cooperation with the International Peace Institute (IPI), the Forum is an example of efforts within the international community to promote conflict resolution. The initiative aims to forst informal exachnages between high-level government representatives and experts from business and academia sectors by focusing on issues of regional security, particularly the latest developments in the Near and Middle East.
Several Foreign Ministers of Member States of the U, the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) were present, as well as actors in the world of politics and defense, allowing for in-depth exchanges of views on major regional and global challenges currently faced by governments and the international community.
This year, discussions particularly focused on the case of Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Libya. On the sidelines of the working sessions, Minister Asselborn engaged with political and defense personalities to take stock of regional issues.
