The Directorate for Development Cooperation at Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has reported that the Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Romain Schneider, visited the Milan EXPO 2015 on Wednesday to participate in a event organised under the Luxembourg Presidency in the Belgian pavilion in collaboration with MSF Luxembourg.
Minister Schneider hosted a noon reception in the presence of directors of various pavilions and representatives of civil society. MSF Luxembourg presented a photo exhibition and video projections on malnutrition in slums and a round table was held on the theme more specific issues related to therapeutic nutritional foods in the Kamrangirchar slum in Dhaka (Bangladesh). The panel was composed of experts in nutrition, World Food Programme, Action against Hunger and MSF, and a representative of the company Nutriset, manufacturer of therapeutic food.
In his opening speech, the Minister stressed the importance Luxembourg attaches to cooperation programmes promoting food security, sustainable agriculture and rural development, as an integrated approach to nutrition including access to water drinking, sanitation, basic health services, social protection and education.
The Luxembourg delegation visited the pavilions of Italy, the host country of the EXPO, the European Union and the countries of the Luxembourg cooperation partners, mostly grouped in thematic clusters "Rice - abundance and security", "Agriculture and Nutrition in arid regions" and "Café - the engine of ideas."
Expo 2015, which runs from 1 May to 31 October 2015 hosts over 130 countries, companies, international organisations and civil society, and the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". The objective is to demonstrate that it is possible and necessary to ensure healthy and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the environment and our planet. The organisers of Expo 2015 are expecting some 20 million visitors.
