Kevin Schiltz, a Luxembourg national, has been arrested in the Faroe Islands when working with the animal rights organisation Sea Shepherd Luxembourg asbl, in protesting about the killing of whales in its waters, on the Set The Whales Free campaign.
A hunt for pilot whales in the waters of the Faroe Islands, a self-governed territory of Denmark, has recently begun, with fishermen driving the whales into shallow water and onto beaches where they are slaughtered. The activists are trying to guide the whales back out to sea when they arrive in shall waters.
Kevin Schiltz has been working with others to pretest against this cruel tradition. Anne Kammerling of Sea Shepherd in Germany stated that he was arrested on Thursday along with four other activists. Two others, one from the US and one from Germany, were arrested on Monday but have since been released.
More than 200 whales have been killed in this current hunt to date.
