On 20 July 2015, Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Romain Schneider, and rector of the University of Luxembourg, Professor Rainer Klump, will sign a financing agreement for a 2015-2019 project aimed at strengthening university governance in the Mali capital of Bamako.
Mali has been a partner country of the Luxembourg cooperation since 1999, and an Indicative Programme of Cooperation was recently signed on 5 March 2015 between Minister Schneider and Mali Minister for Foreign Affairs Abdoulaye Diop. This agreement included an interuniversity cooperation component between the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance at the University of Luxembourg and the University of Law and Political Science (USJP) and the University of Social Sciences and Management (USSG) in Bamako.
The aim of the July signing will be to create an environment in the universities of Bamako conducive to research and higher education. The Luxembourg cooperation with this innovative project reportedly intends to create a long-term impact, aiming to prevent, through better conditions in graduate studies and research, a brain drain and subsequently promote the development of Mali.
