At ING we have defined our purpose to “empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and in business”. You might notice we talk about people, not clients, and we test this purpose against everything we do. While the Christmas spirit gets everyone in a sharing mood, we have provided support throughout the year to innovative projects that address real social and environmental needs.

2019 was marked by a large number of events sponsored or organised by ING in the areas of health, youth, the environment and society at large.

In February this year, we kicked off our partnership with Jonk Entrepreneuren in their Fit for Life programme (financial education) and by hosting an Innovation Camp to tackle environmental issues with students.

We participated in the Cancer Foundation’s “Relais pour la Vie” with 59 colleagues, family and friends divided into two ING teams in March. Along the same lines, two ING teams also took part in the first Immorun, supporting the Kriibskrank Kanner Foundation, which helps families of children with cancer.

In June, more than 110 ING employees and their families ran or walked for UNICEF during the Run for Youth and the ING 24 hours in Wiltz. Thanks to them, €2,564 were donated to UNICEF in support of our joint Power for Youth programme. But we don’t only donate money: we donated just under 100 iPhones to Digital Inclusion and 50 PC screens to Close the Gap.

At ING we are conscious that our operations touch many lives. We have a communication platform with a wider reach than other organisations and we do our best to put it at their disposal. This year we lit our headquarters building in front of Luxembourg’s central station to support causes like Autism Awareness Day (blue), Children’s’ Rights Day (blue) or the Orange Week for the elimination of violence against girls and women (orange).

The height of our community efforts is probably the renown ING Solidarity Awards. In November we awarded 23 projects totaling more than EUR 65,000. We are excited to hear back from the winners and their projects next year!

We wish you Happy Holidays and all the best for 2020 from all of us at ING!
