On Tuesday 8 December 2015, the Ville de Luxembourg will be holding a panel discussion geared towards 'Human Rights in the City'.

The event has been organised in collaboration with the Ligues des Droits de l'Homme-Action Luxembourg Ouvert et Solidaire (ALOS-LDH), the European Association for the Defence of Human Rights (AEDH) and the Centre for Intercultural and Social Research and Training (Cefis). The discussion will be attended by Dominique Guibert, president of the AEDH; Patrick Goldschmidt, alderman of the City of Luxembourg in charge of integration and specific needs; and Claude Weber, president of the ALOS-LDH.

The event will open with an analysis of the problems and good practices both in Luxembourg and other European countries regarding the reconcilitation of civil liberties and security, social cohesion, the protection of minorities and the welcoming reception of refugees, before the speakers look to new paths that will allow for the safeguarding of conditions of living together and further improve the exercise of fundamental rights at the local level.

The discussion will also reflect on the role that can be played on one side by political and social actors at the local and communal level, and on the other by citizens themselves to ensure the effective exercise of fundamental rights.

The panel discussion forms part of the 'Knuedler 2015 - Place of Human Rights' action. More information on this can be found at www.ldh-knuedler2015.lu.

The event will begin at 19:00 and will close with a reception hosted by the City of Luxembourg. It will take place at the Auditoire of Cercle Cité, 3 rue Genistre, Luxembourg. The event is free of charge and will be conducted in French, with direct oral translation into English provided. A translation into another language, or into German sign language, may be available upon request.
